Ebrahim Alkazi was a champion for the visual arts and theatre in India and beyond, who strove to ensure that art histories were chronicled, disseminated, and enlivened.

Ebrahim Alkazi founded collections of visual arts and photography and archived Indian theatre with a mission to foster cultural understanding. Honoring E. Alkazi’s conviction that artistic works can “serve as guide-posts and sources of inspiration to succeeding generations,” The Alkazi Foundation for the Arts, Alkazi Theatre Archives, and the Alkazi Collection are unique interdisciplinary collections comprising of paintings, sculpture, print works, mixed media, photography, theatre archives, and more. E. Alkazi also founded Art Heritage with his wife Roshen Alkazi as a gallery devoted to promoting modern and contemporary Indian art. In bringing together such a constellation of artistic practices, these entities seek to explore links across cultural spheres and encourage dialogue.

Alkazi 100 programming highlights materials from these collections of photography, visual arts, and theatre archives. A 2025–2026 programming series will be collaboratively presented by sister organizations The Alkazi Foundation for the Arts, Art Heritage, and Alkazi Theatre Archives.

Foregrounding Women in the Collection

To mark E. Alkazi’s centenary and his legacy of commitment to the arts, Alkazi 100 begins with amplifying the indelible contributions of women across creative fields in India’s history through these three collections. Through exhibitions, publications, and events, Alkazi 100 programming will explore multiple themes, including delving into the central role of women in cultural histories and contemporary artistic outlooks.
