'Sparseeing' | Photobook Launch and Display
From Concept to Creation – Breathing Life into Cinematic 3D Characters
4 December 2025 | 6 PM
Journey to the 1950s, the moment of a heady modernism, eclecticism, and industrial ambition. Fuelled by entrepreneurial aspirations, a grand mansion in the heart of Jamshedpur (Tatanagar) became home to a thriving Parsee family. Situated above the city’s Regal Cinema, it was also the residence of Mr. Keki Gazder, an amateur photographer, whose obsessive documentation and diary entries of a world in transition frame the story of this new photobook. Join us for the launch of 'Sparseeing' — a photobook and (travelling) archival exhibit by the 2022 Alkazi Photobook Grant recipients, Joyona Medhi and Abhishek Basu. The artist/authors will be in conversation with Suryanandini Narain, Assistant Professor at the School of Arts and Aesthetics, JNU. The photobook will be available at a discounted price at the launch. On view till 4 January 2026. The exhibition in Delhi is presented in association with Offset Projects and supported by Tata Trusts.

Project Overview
The project required adherence to the highest standards of visual fidelity and real-time rendering capabilities to meet the production studio's technical requirements.
Creating the motion design visuals involved designing a believable and awe-inspiring universe. The goal was to develop a cohesive visual narrative that enhanced storytelling and immersed viewers in the film's sci-fi world.
At Nebula Production, I worked to create a visual spectacle for Stellar Odyssey, focusing on meticulously designing elements that fit the film's futuristic theme. My responsibilities included conceptualizing 3D characters and tools and crafting scenes that captured the essence of the unknown.
Approach
Setting the scene with the production team
I adopted a multi-faceted approach that combined creativity with technical precision. The goal was to push the boundaries of 3D design while maintaining a consistent aesthetic throughout the film.
I created detailed concept art and 3D models for unique characters, refining designs through iterative feedback with the production team. Then, I integrated these models into dynamic scenes using advanced visual effects and innovative rendering techniques to produce polished and compelling visuals.
Process
My design process was a blend of creativity, technical skills, and collaboration. Each stage was meticulously planned and executed to achieve the highest quality results.
The process started with research and brainstorming to grasp the thematic and aesthetic needs of "Stellar Odyssey." I created mood boards and sketches to visualise concepts, followed by detailed 3D models and textures to ensure a cohesive look.
My design philosophy for Stellar Odyssey aimed to create a future-proof aesthetic, balancing realism and imagination, with each element contributing to a cohesive, believable universe.
Final Design
Months of hard work and collaboration led to a groundbreaking and memorable visual experience. The designs exceeded the production team's expectations, setting a new standard for sci-fi films.
The final designs featured 3D characters with unique attributes and backstories, enhancing the narrative's depth. Vehicles and tools had a futuristic, functional, and visually striking aesthetic. Detailed 3D scenes and dynamic effects transported audiences to space, with visual continuity ensuring every frame contributed to the film's storytelling, making it a visual masterpiece.
